Here we go...

Welcome to the official blog of RainCityKnits. It seems wholly appropriate that I am writing this very first post on a rather rainy day in Vancouver. Here is a photo from our studio loft.

Just another summer's day.

Just another summer's day.

For those of you unfamiliar with the city, it doesn't have a particularly tall skyline. That said, there should be several towers in the background of the photo. Sadly, they're completely eclipsed by the clouds in this photo.

What's the big deal, you ask?  it's July 24. Most Canadians are enjoying themselves sipping drinks on patios or lakeside at the cottage. Not here in good old Vancouver. Rain, rain, rain.

DIrty, dirty boots.

DIrty, dirty boots.

We're kind of obsessed with the weather here. And as a Vancouverite born and raised, I'm no different. So it's really no surprise that our brand - RainCityKnits - is named after the pervasive weather pattern.

Nor is it a surprise that the hottest fashion accessory for Vancouver ladies - aside from RainCityKnits yarn - is rubber boots. Nowadays, rubber boots come in a vast array of colours beyond hunter green. These puppies on the right are mine, complete with mud from an earlier walk in the rain.

Bright colours are one of my top tips to keep spirits up on a rainy day. In fact, that's why our yarns come in such bright colours.

So with rain on the brain (pun intended!), we introduce our Rain Drop Blue Yarn. Made of 100% merino wool, this all-natural yarn is a nod the city's rainy days. You can find out more here.

And next time is starts to rain where you live, try wearing something bright!
