Like many people, I really missed hockey. As a Vancouverite born and bred until I was 18, I grew up as a Canucks fan. We've had a really exciting couple of years as a team and despite the politics surrounding the lockout - yes, I agree it's infighting amongst millionaires and billionaires - I am eager for hockey to return.
Hockey makes me proud of my identity as a second-generation Canuck. I feel my most Canadian when I hear the intro to Hockey Night in Canada. I actually get sentimental whenever I see first-gen Canadian families gathering together to watch hockey. The sport seems to transcend cultures more than anything else in this city.
When a customer asked me if I could dye a Boston Bruins self-striping skein for her as a Custom Sock Yarn, I was a bit surprised. She lives in Western Canada and the Bruins are not popular out here. Who could forget our loss to the Bruins in Game 7 that incited a riot in this otherwise calm city? (I totally blame Vancouverites for their actions, of course).
I swallowed my sport-related pride and this is the end result. I think it turned out great!
